The book of Judges is an account of the cycle where Israel abandons God, God puts them under the bondage of a neighbouring country. This oppression makes them to cry out to God who being full of mercy raises up for them a deliverer. If this book were a painting, then the sin and stubbornness of the people of Israel would be the dark background that brings out the bright strokes of God’s grace. God’s grace and power is seen in how he raises this delivers from obscurity and promises to be with them until they accomplished Hiss purposes as demonstrated by Judges 2:18a. I would like us this evening to study one such deliverer by the name of Shamgar. Although little is said of him, there is much that can be learned from him, about how God can turn seeming weaknesses into strength that bring about salvation. 1. His circumstances (v31a) 2. His resources (v31b) 3. His accomplishments (v31c)
