Funeral Mass for Kathleen C. Goldrick March 18, 1941 - July 16, 2025 September 13, 2025 - 10:30AM Ascension Catholic Church, Oak Park, IL Kathleen Cecelia Goldrick, nee Carey, passed away peacefully in the early morning of July 16, 2025. Known as “Katie”, “Kate”, “Mema”, “Grandma”, “her Highnessty” (a self-given name), “Lady Katie” and of course, “Mom”, she was born to Evelyn and Martin E. Carey on March 18, 1941 in Chicago, Illinois, the older sister to her brother, the late Martin W. Carey. Katie grew up on the north side of Chicago, living in the Edgewater and Rogers Park neighborhoods. She attended St. Gregory High School, and spent much of her time outside of school with her beloved sister-cousin, Patricia (Carey) Eichstaedt, on the west side of Chicago, making many friends, questionable decisions and fond memories. After high school, Katie went on to work for the Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad for several years and eventually met and married her husband, Michael R. Goldrick. They settled in Oak Park, where they raised five daughters and one son on the 1000 block of Wisconsin Avenue, the “best block” with the “best neighbors” and some of the “best block parties”. Katie additionally worked for and co-owned Nu Fone answering service for many years. In her spare time, she would spend summers on Jordan Lake in Wisconsin with an occasional trip to Cancun, Mexico or Bethany Beach, Delaware, packing up a car full of kids and luggage to drive cross country with a lead foot, often coming home with a souvenir speeding ticket or two. Katie was a true animal lover, having kept a variety of dogs, cats, hamsters and goldfish over the years. There wasn’t a spider she wouldn’t rescue, much to the dismay of her daughter Ellen, and she loved watching nature outside her homes, be it deer, squirrels or birds and enjoyed preserving uninhabited nests. Katie was a good athlete, competing in speed skating and basketball in her youth, and fostered a love of skiing, particularly in Aspen, Colorado. She was also skilled at painting, sewing, taking awkward pictures and making the occasional “suggestion”, welcome or otherwise, to her children. She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Michael, her sisters in law Judith Goldrick and Mary Carol Carey, her six children, Karen (Jeff Kean), Ellen (Brian Riordan), Margaret (Tom McFee), Anne (Mathew Mitchell), Michael (Erla Erlingsdottir), and Sarah (Josh) Broderick, her 3 granddaughters, Evelyn and Catherine Riordan and Emma Goldrick, and many official and unofficial cousins, nieces, nephews and countless friends. A Memorial Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at Ascension Church, 808 S. East Ave., Oak Park from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Interment is private.
