Hawaye Melechhi Pakhhna - A Tribute To Kutty By Abhilasha & Friends

"Hawaye melechhi pakhhna" In the beginning…there was Abhilasha. For those who are new in the Bangla Rock scene, it’s time to set the records straight once and for all. In other words, Abhilasha started the whole Bangla Rock subculture in Kolkata paving the path for numerous bands to create some amazing music over the last 23 years. And the two names that are synonymous with Abhilasha are Sumit Sammader and Kutty Majumder. After surviving numerous changes in lineup and sound, Kutty kept the band alive for more than 20 years till he passed away on the 1st of October, 2014. This not only left a huge hole in the band, but also an irreversible void in the Bangla rock scene. Kutty’s death started an avalanche of phonecalls and emails between friends of the band all over the world. And in a record 10 weeks, ex band members and friends of the band have put together a beautiful album in his memory and have planned a star-studded rock concert on the 13th of December at Central Park, Golf Green. And the best part is it’s a free concert! So spread the word and bring a friend. Prominent friends of the band who are joining the concert are Raja Narayan deb , Sidhu from Cactus , Rupam Islam from Fossils, Pota from Marudyan, Anindyo from Shohor, Gabu from Lokkhichhara, , Kaushik and his band Prithibi, Timir from Fakira, Nagar Sankirtan,Sayan from Eeshaan, Shilajit, Soumya from Prachir. And of course lots of ex band members of Abhilasha itself including Parag, Ashu, Bumpy, Arko, Apurba, Tania, Debu, Tinni, Raja and Ronnie and also the members from Bangla band Prithibi, Fakira , Sixthveda , Alienz, Anupam Roy and Band. What makes this a unique gathering is that musicians young and old-timers alike are going to share the microphone in the spirit of Kutty. Kutty and Sumit had spearheaded a similar movement years ago when they created an impromptu Pran Mela in protest of Gaan Mela - a music festival that did not recognize Bangla bands as a popular art form. The new generation of Bangla Rock bands have been hugely instrumental in pulling off the crazy logistics that go behind organising a concert of this magnitude. And this goes out as an invitation to each and every lover of Bangla Rock. Come and join the concert at 5 p.m. on the 13th of December at Central Park, Golf Green.
