Lawmakers React to Hamas' Attack on Israel & Condemn the Aggression | EWTN News Nightly
Lawmakers on Capitol Hill were swift to react to Hamas' attack on Israel condemning the aggression that's killed hundreds. Some Republicans are blaming Biden Administration policies for the attacks, but right now Congress' hands are tied from getting involved. There is very little that US Congress can do right now to aid Israel. The US House remains without a speaker and the Senate is out of session this week. Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, leading a group of lawmakers on a trip to China condemned the attacks. While the Biden Administration says it is standing up for Israel, Republicans claim the president's Middle East policies are to blame. Claims are being made that Hamas used American weapons and technology left behind in Afghanistan to carry out the attack. Senator Rick Scott says, "It's despicable what the Biden Administration did by giving $6 billion to Iran, and now look what's happened with Hamas. Hundreds of Israeli's have lost their lives. We have Israeli's that have been captured, and Israeli's that have been treated horribly." Democrat Senator Cory Booker was in Jerusalem for a security conference at the time of the coordinated attacks and he recounted what it was like being in a bomb shelter. Senator Booker is now back on US soil. The Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Congressman Michael McCaul says it's going to be a long war and doesn't want it to escalate.
