Beans are a wonderful crop here in the PNW. Unlike peas, beans like warmer weather. One cool thing about beans, and peas, is that they can fix their own nitrogen. Just make sure you don’t plant them with/next to the Allium family (chives, leeks, onions and garlic). Beans are also a favorite of the birds, so I like to start pole beans in containers and transplant outside once they get bigger. Here, I seed 6 seeds in 3” containers for my pole beans. Bush beans can be started the same way in a lower density. I will transplant these outside with my corn when the weather warms up. I am growing many different beans including pole and bush types but also fresh eating beans and drying beans as well. Beans are one of my favorite foods and I eat them daily. Thank you for watching and happy bean planting. Please share below if you have any bean tips to share with fellow gardeners.
