With the Hero 9 we get bigger capacity batteries that also have bigger size, thus needing a new USB charger. There are some interesting things to know about this charger and why it is fast or slow. Bonus you can also use Hero 8 batteries in the Hero 9 and use the newer charger in a kind of way.
