While only three countries currently have operational maglev trains, China, Japan and South Korea, the world's first commercial maglev train system actually launched in Birmingham, UK in 1985, three years after this lecture was broadcast. Leonard Maunder gave the 1983 Christmas Lectures "Machines in Motion" about motion on all scales - from atoms to locomotives to space ships.
