SWAT Standoff Ends Peacefully in Dayton

DAYTON -- A SWAT team was called out to a Dayton home after reports of a man wielding a machete. Crews were called to the 3300 block of East Fifth Street around midnight for a domestic situation. The suspect, 44-year-old, James Boggs was on parole for robbery. After police were called to this home at 12:30 p.m. for a domestic dispute, Boggs apparently barricaded himself and his girlfriend. The SWAT Team arrived at 3:00 Monday morning. At some points, Boggs threatened to harm himself. Boggs told police he wanted to see his parents, and they did make it to the scene. And that may have been what caused Boggs to finally exited the back door. He was then taken into custody. Neighbors were evacuated during the standoff because an audience had formed. Boggs apparently came home around midnight and hit his girlfriend with a baseball bat. Once police arrived, he then apparently held her up inside the home with a machete. A medic was on scene but the girlfriend refused treatment. Boggs could face domestic dispute charges and other charges. So far, crews have been able to speak to the male suspect through an upstairs window. Swat told him to exit out the back door. They are currently attempting to speak to him on the phone. A medic is on scene as well as multiple police responders. Right now, East 5th Street from Hedges to Harbine is closed.
