Killing Religion, Reviving CHRISTianity | Spoken Word

It’s time we come back to the heart of authentic, genuine relationship with Jesus, over man made religion. Religion is centered on “me” & what I do, Christianity is based on Jesus & what he HAS done. Religion is people centered, where Christianity is Jesus centered. We don’t need more rules or white noise, but a fresh encounter with the one who fulfills our deepest needs and desires. We never have to wake up and try to be Christians, just like apple trees don’t try to be apple trees, we bear fruit of the Spirit by remaining in Jesus and enjoying that relationship. It’s all about HIS power and saving grace not our ability to get right with God. Religion in this poem means “legalism” or any moral statuette trying to take the place of what should be at the center- faith alone in Christ alone. Just trying to recover and unleash the fresh truth of Jesus’ mission in a way that can push His body closer to him. My goal in this is to continue in the Revolution Jesus began, not stir up a rebellious mindset. God calls us to Religion that is pure and undefiled, and the church is His plan A, there is no plan B. God will always work through our imperfection to complete his perfect will. He sees our best even at our worst because His grace is sufficient to carry us. Religion says obey to be loved, Christianity says I’m loved therefore I obey. Religion says that you reap what you sow, but CHRISTianity says I reap what Jesus sowed. Religion is people’s work focused, CHRISTianity is Jesus finished work focused. Religion is about what I can get from God, but Christianity is about God pursuing Us so that we could simply have Him. He paid a high price not so that we’d sing to him one day a week then get to heaven when we die, but that our entire lives would be worship poured out to Him as heaven lives on the inside. There’s something deeper than just doing the right “christian” thing to check off boxes with performance,, it’s about a heart transformed into the love that pursued it so that Light from the Source can burst through to creation.
