The chaos regarding the contradicting comments between Team India Test skipper Virat Kohli and Sourav Ganguly, the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, have intensified quite a bit over the last few days. Ganguly, also a former Indian skipper, said that he had personally asked the 33-year-old Virat to not step down from captaincy in the T20 format. However, the Delhi-born Virat was clear cut in saying that he was never asked “not to quit T20 captaincy”. As per reports, the BCCI wasn’t happy with proceedings on Wednesday, December 15. However, the board is also aware that any strong reaction could hamper the morale of the Indian team before the three-match Test series against South Africa, starting December 26. Even as Kohli reached South Africa on Thursday, December 16, Ganguly refrained from making any comments while saying that the BCCI will take the necessary steps. “No statements, no press conference. We will deal with it, leave it to (the) BCCI,” Ganguly was quoted as saying to the media in his hometown. In the meantime, Kohli has lost captaincy in the ODI format as well. As per sources, the BCCI office bearers, including Ganguly and Jay Shah, the honorary secretary, took part in a zoom call on Wednesday where it was decided that the board wouldn’t engage in any media interaction before the South Africa tour. “Expert opinion was taken on how to deal with the sensitive matter as it also involves the respect of a president’s office. The BCCI knows that a Test series is round the corner and any hasty decision or statement from them could affect the morale of the team,” a senior BCCI official told on conditions of anonymity. Two of the biggest figures in Indian cricket at the moment, Virat Kohli and Sourav Ganguly have taken the cricket world by storm with their contradicting statements. While the BCCI president claimed he ‘personally’ requested Kohli to not quit T20I captaincy, the latter refuted the claims, saying no such request was made. This episode has left the fans divided and the hullabaloo isn’t likely to end anytime soon. For the unversed, the saga started after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced Rohit Sharma as ODI captain on December 8. The decision was shocking as Kohli, who stepped down as T20I skipper post the T20 World Cup last month, expressed desires of continuing leading the team in the other two formats. However, the national selectors wanted a common captain in white-ball cricket. Hence, Rohit was given the charge. With Ganguly and Kohli coming up with different claims, Twitter is left divided. While Kohli has received a lot of support from his fans, Ganguly, who’s hailed as one of the finest Indian skippers ever, also got fans backing him. In fact, #NationStandsWithDada became one of the top trends on Twitter amid this saga. The England cricketers were seen wearing black armbands on Day 1 of the 1st Ashes Test match at The Gabba. And, the reason is to pay their tributes to former England cricketer Eileen Ash. Ash was 110 when she died, and represented the England side in 7 Test matches, and picked up 10 wickets in her career. She also scored 38 runs with the bat as well. Ash was the oldest ever Test match cricketer. Also, last week, during the 1st Test match at The Gabba in Brisbane, Ben Stokes sported a black armband to pay his tributes to his father, Ged Stokes, who passed away on 8th December 2020. “Bit of chatter on comms about the 568 on Ben Stokes’ black armband. That was his father Ged’s cap number when he represented New Zealand in rugby league in 1982. Ged died a year ago today,” read a tweet from Will Macpherson.
