Twenty years after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, many crucial questions remain unanswered: What role did Saudi Arabia play? Who were the real masterminds behind the attackers? The terrorist attacks killed almost 3,000 people. A turning point in world history. For many of the victims' relatives, the pain is far from over. Many of them finally want clarity and have again called on the US government to finally release classified documents about those behind the attacks. At the beginning of September, US President Biden ordered a review of the release of further documents. Now the FBI has released a new document listing close contacts between the terrorists and Saudi government officials. The victims' families see their suspicions vindicated but fear that important evidence will continue to be withheld. To this day, the role played by the Saudi intelligence service, the embassy in Washington, and the royal family in Riyadh in the attacks has not been fully clarified.
