“THE FORESHADOWING OF THE FEASTS” (PASSOVER) TEXT: (COL. 2:15-16) “So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a feast or a new moon or sabbaths, which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ.” THE FEASTS: PASSOVER UNLEAVENED BREAD FIRST FRUITS PENTECOST TRUMPETS ATONEMENT TABERNACLES PRIMARY TEXT: (LEV. 23:1-5) “And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them: ‘The feasts of the LORD, which you shall proclaim to be holy convocations, these are My feasts. Six days shall work be done, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of solemn rest, a holy convocation. You shall do no work on it; it is the Sabbath of the LORD in all your dwellings. These are the feasts of the LORD, holy convocations which you shall proclaim at their appointed times. ‘On the fourteenth day of the first month at evening is the LORD’s Passover.” THE PASSOVER 1: THE PEOPLE 2: THE PLAGUE 3: THE PROMISE 4: THE PLAN OF THE LAMB THE LAMB (EXODUS 12) Every house took a lamb. (VS 3) The Lamb had to be spotless, without blemish. (VS 5) The Lamb was to be slain in the evening. Between 3 pm – 5 pm (VS 6) The Blood of the Lamb had to be applied. (VS 7) TEXT: (EXODUS 12:12-13) “‘For I will pass through the land of Egypt on that night, and will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD. ‘Now the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you; and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt.” THE PASSOVER POINTS 1: DEATH IS COMING FOR US ALL TEXT: (HEBREWS 9:27) “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:” TEXT: (I COR. 15:22a) “For as in Adam all die,…” TEXT: (ROMANS 6:23a) “For the wages of sin is death;…” 2: BUT GOD PROVIDED A LAMB (JESUS) TEXT: (JOHN 1:29) “The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” TEXT: (JOHN 1:36) “And looking at Jesus as He walked, he said, “Behold the Lamb of God!” TEXT: (ISAIAH 53:7) “He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, And as a sheep before its shearers is silent, So He opened not His mouth.” The Marriage supper in eternity is referred to as “The Marriage Supper of the Lamb.” (REV. 19:9) TEXT: (REVELATION 21:23) “The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it. The Lamb is its light.” TEXT: (REVELATION 22:3) “And there shall be no more curse, but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and His servants shall serve Him.” 3: JESUS IS OUR PASSOVER LAMB TEXT: (HEBREWS 9:22) “And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission.” TEXT: (I COR. 5:7) “Therefore purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, since you truly are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us.” PILATE INSPECTED HIM! (Luke 23:4) “Jesus was Spotless” TEXT: (LUKE 23:4) “So Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowd, “I find no fault in this Man.” TEXT: (JOHN 19:14-18) “Now it was the Preparation Day of the Passover, and about the sixth hour. And he said to the Jews, “Behold your King!” But they cried out, “Away with Him, away with Him! Crucify Him!” Pilate said to them, “Shall I crucify your King?” The chief priests answered, “We have no king but Caesar!” Then he delivered Him to them to be crucified. So they took Jesus and led Him away. And He, bearing His cross, went out to a place called the Place of a Skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha, where they crucified Him, and two others with Him, one on either side, and Jesus in the middle.” THE HYSSOP (EXODUS 12:22, JOHN 19:29) THE TIMING (Remember the Passover Lamb was killed in evening. Twilight. 3-5 pm) (TEXT: MARK 15:34) “And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?” which is translated, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” (Matthew 27:46, Luke 23:44) (Also tell us Jesus died at the 9th Hour.) THE PASSOVER LAMBS WERE…. Innocent. Without Spot. Not a bone was to be broken. (Exodus 12:46) They were deemed Worthy of Sacrifice. TEXT: (REVELATION 5:11-14) “Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. In a loud voice they were saying: “Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!” Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, saying: “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!”
