The Accu SPINA is safer than other spinal decompression systems Matt Marshall, Ph D Georgia Tech

Hello my name is Matt Marshall. I'm an associate professor of Robotics and mechatronics Engineering at Kennesaw State University. I was asked to perform a technical review of the accuspina decompression device and compare it to another design. What I found is that the accuspina is better in two important ways: those are precision and safety. The accuspina uses a force sensor that's over two and a half times more precise than the other design. What this means is that it can provide smoother transitions between distraction levels and also it allows it to give finer movements. The safety aspect refers to what's known as a design measure. A design measure is a way of reducing risk by removing the source of the risk from the design. Now the accuspina has an important design measure for a safety that the other design doesn't have. First of all, power is the product of force and velocity. It means if you're applying a force, how quickly can it move. The accuspina design uses a 0.02 horsepower motor and the other design uses a one horsepower motor. What that means is that there is risk built into the other design because of its 50 times larger motor that's not there with the accuspina. For these reasons, the Precision and the safety. if I or someone I cared about had to have spinal decompression treatment, I would definitely want it to be with the accuspina device.
