Back in the 1950s and ‘60s, Hanford had the first speedway west of the Mississippi River that could, and did, host USAC and NASCAR races. Legends such as Fireball Roberts, Mario Andretti, AJ Foyt and Gordon Johncock were among those who raced and won there. But Marchbanks Speedway, also known as Hanford Motor Speedway, was more than a place where the best racers in the world competed. There were also car races featuring local drivers and even a 22 acre lake for boat racing. In the 1950s through the 1970s, the racing world saw many innovations, several of which were on display at Marchbanks. You don't need to be a gearhead to enjoy this exhibition which highlights an exciting time in Hanford's history.
