So today is the day, the big day were I move absolutely most of my things out of my current house, haul it 3 and half hours away down the M1 to the great University of Bath. It's very very exciting! We packed the car last night, and it was literally packed full of boxes, so many so that the whole boot was full and it was spilling across 2 of the back 3 seats, and it was piled right to the top of the car. You could not fit anymore in that car unless you were to take someone out of it all together! So much so that I was one of the structural supports for the things on the seat, if it wasn't for my shoulder that stuff would have been flying all over the damn place! To give you an idea of how much stuff there was, we were in a fiat duplo, I know right arriving in style! Google it ;) The motorway (of which I wrote a blog post about here: http://jamieped.wordpress.com/2012/09... ) was mental, the rain was actually terrifying, there was standing water, everything! Crazy times! I was so glad that dad was driving and I wasn't :P Well we hit Bath around 10am (after waking up at 5) but by the time we had wrestled with the SatNav we were at the Uni by half past which then meant moving everything into the room :) I quickly set up most of the good stuff working with the larger then expected storage space and set up the electrics first because that was most important. My flat mates weren't in the flat at the time so I had free reign to set everything up (though I didn't do anything with any of the food because I didn't know what the deal was with our kitchen). It was when they came back that it went slightly down hill, I don't know why it did because I'm usually so cool and arrogant and confident with people but it just felt really really awkward because they all knew each other and I was there like hi! I kind of hovered around a bit and then wondered back into my room to finish setting everything up. This took a while actually it wasn't technically finished until the next day ;) Then being the Computer Science guy I was jumped on to help people set up their internet connections on their laptops - at which point (excited to be fitting in) I slammed my head onto the corner of my shelf, cutting my head open and then giving me a massive bump! Trust me. But I think it came in handy it was a pretty good excuse to not go out, I had a bit of a wobble, I felt like an outsider and really awkward, so in the evening time I went for dinner with Mother and Father who were staying over in Bath. Then I had a crisis essentially because I knew that I wanted to go with them, and away from everyone else, but I also knew that I had a meeting to go to, and that technically I had to spend my time with flat mates if I was ever going to bond with them! Small crisis/panic attack here because I was so torn, I had to ring lovely to just talk to me for a bit. After dinner with the parents I had a small look around Bath, because I had never actually seen the city, and it's really really nice! Upon getting into the flat again everyone was in the kitchen "pre-drinking" I wondered in with some pain killers to get a glass of water (for my head this is) but it felt really really awkward as I was just sat on the outside not having anything to say and they just carried on talking without me, so I slopped off to my room. Nearly rang lovely crying because I was so frustrated with myself. But then one of the nice girls came in to see if I was alright and to invite me into the other room so that I wasn't left out, I was still only drinking water, but I went in none the less and sat there. I didn't say much but it was nice to be around them, though it was terrifying with them playing their drinking games and stuff. I couldn't even keep tabs on what was going on, and I was sober! Then they all went out and I went back to the room to give you a tour and then also to settle down and talk to lovely on Skype and to catch up on YouTube stuff while the parties continued on outside. I'm a brilliant fresher me! First night and I'm not even out. Pfft. Tomorrow will be better That's about all, so thanks for watching and/or reading the description! I'll catch you later!
