(14 Apr 1999) English/Nat U-S Secretary of State Madeleine Albright has returned to Washington, following a whirlwind trip to Europe to discuss the Kosovo situation. After meetings in Brussels to solidify NATO's pledge to continue the military offensive against Yugoslavia, Albright also met Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov in Norway. The U-S and Russia have failed to settle differences over NATO's bombing campaign. With NATO unity reaffirmed, the U-S Secretary of State has returned to Washington. Madeleine Albright left the U-S for Europe on Sunday, to attend meetings to discuss the Kosovo crisis. A meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Brussels brought a pledge from the alliance that it would continue its attacks on Yugoslavia. But Russia and the United States sharply disagree on the NATO bombing campaign, although they have pledged to work together to try to settle the conflict. Following talks with Russian foreign minister Igor Ivanov in Oslo, Secretary of State Albright said it was in the interest of both governments to work together whenever possible. Russia's remains opposed to NATO military action.
