This song is about the Armenian genocide, which took place from 1915-1918 in the Ottoman Empire where around 1.5 million Armenians were killed while most of the world was fighting in World War I. The "holy mountains" refer to the Armenian Highlands which make up the border between Armenia and Turkey. Mount Ararat on the Turkish side is considered the "holy mountain" and a reminder of the genocide for Armenians. Also, all four members of System Of A Down are of Armenian descent.
