►Upon its arrival, Volkswagen updated the Mk8 for the modern era, but the haptic steering wheel buttons were a step in the wrong direction. Many journalists and early owners complained of accidentally hitting them while driving normally, so VW changed back to standard buttons on later GTI models. Luckily, if you have a Golf R or an early GTI and find those buttons annoying, you can retrofit them with standard buttons. Replacing your Mk8 steering wheel buttons is a little involved, but not rocket science.
