Can one alleyway and a 40mm lens land a win in a photo challenge? This week, I’m heading to the colorful Orange Street Alley to tackle the Fred Miranda weekly photo assignment. The theme: Umbrellas. Shooting a common subject challenges us to make our photos unique. I’m walking you through my process using the Nikon ZR and the 40mm f/2, from the shots that didn't quite make the cut to the technical fiddling of the edit. You'll see the RAW file transform as I work to make a specific "ruby" shape stand out using shutter drag and careful cropping. I didn't take home the gold this time, but 4th place in a community as talented as Fred Miranda feels like a win, especially when the day included a great walk and time spent with friends. Thanks for coming along on this small adventure. I hope today gives you something worth photographing!
