Normally girl’s study certificates will have parent’s surname and id proofs have my husband’s surname. How should i apply for competitive exams? If i were selected with what surname how i should proceed further? Answer: In India, it is a practice to change the girl’s surname into husband's surname after marriage. You should apply for competitive exams using your parent’s surname or husband's surname it will not be a problem. Since your study certificates contain your father surname, no further proof required. Before applying for any competitive exam please apply for an affidavit stating that your surname got changed after marriage. Or apply for marriage certificate.
