Today's problem reads: With this Hydraulic Loading word problem determine a number of the four large item Clarifiers out of service that are needed to put in service in the wastewater treatment plant. Assume the flow 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with 2,000 GPM and 5:00 PM. - 7:00 a.m. with 511.9048 GPM. The seven small Clarifiers in service have a diameter of 213.2968387 feet and the four large Clarifiers in service have a diameter of 282.166324 feet. The designed required GPD per square foot must not exceed 2.75. Calculate number of idle Clarifiers to put in Service. What we're going to do here is we're going to do several things, but one of the things we're going to do is that we're going to actually take and calculate the number of required Clarifiers by taking the surface area required based upon the design criteria minus the surface area that's actually in service. We're going to subtract those two numbers and we're going to divide it by the surface area of large Clarifier. Now all this stuff is calculated separate stand alone videos. So I'm just going to insert the results here in an Excel spreadsheet. Because the answer is a decimal and it's less than 1.5, it's actually going to be 1.48. I've got to use the roundup function in Excel to round that up to the next number. So I'm going to take this basic criteria and then going to insert it into that round up Excel function. So, let's go to a blank Excel spreadsheet and put your cursor in C one and type more idle large Clarifiers put in service. Recognize, your answer is going to be the number of days. Put your cursor in A one and make it whole numbers. Make it bold and centered and in the address part, type in this long formula. Equals sign, round up, four open parentheses, four of them, five, nine, two, seven, two, seven, one closed parentheses, minus sign, open parentheses, 500,000, two closed parentheses, division key, open parentheses, 625 62,500 two closed parentheses, comma, zero, and one closed parentheses. Press enter and in A one will be your answer, two additional idle Clarifiers. Now, just a couple little clarifications, if we did not use the round up we would have had 1.48. With whole numbers we would have had 1.00 because the answer is 1.48 and it would have rounded down. So in order to give us the next highest full Clarifier, we used the round up. The other thing I want you to know is that by putting in two full idle Clarifiers, it actually brings the gallons per day per square foot below 2.75, it actually puts it at 2.60. So just if there's any questions about that, that's how it ends up. Now, how did we get to 592,727? We'll slide on down here and that is the design surface area, this is where we have the result, we have the link and a formula for the 592,727. Now the actual surface area of the Clarifiers in service, this is the result here for the 500,000. This is the solution, the link, the title. Then the surface area of one large Clarifier, this is the formula here, with the result and the link to the video 62,500. So the answer, is 2 idle Clarifiers is needed to put in Service.
