A FARMER'S PATIENCE | The Word Exposed with Cardinal Tagle (December 14, 2025) with Sign Language Today is the Third Sunday of Advent, which is also called “Gaudete Sunday.” On this day, we are exhorted to rejoice because “the Lord is near” (Phil 4:5). The Lord is near to us, brothers and sisters, when we turn from sinful ways to his ways. The Lord is near to us when we visit him in the poor, the sick, and the outcast. The Lord is near to us when we proclaim his good news. And we can take the cue from John the Baptist. His preaching prepared the people for the arrival of Jesus, the Lamb of God. Through his ministry, the sinners were given a chance to turn away from sin through a baptism of repentance. And he rejoiced always, brothers and sisters! From the womb of his mother upon hearing the voice of the Mother of God, to hearing from Jesus that the sick were healed, the dead raised, and the good news proclaimed to the poor! The public ministry of Jesus confirmed that the One who had been promised has arrived! Even in prison, John rejoiced! But he needed to be patient in waiting and discerning. Joy comes with patience. On this Gaudete Sunday, brothers and sisters, let us pray for the zeal to work in God’s vineyard and for the patience to await the yield, the harvest of God.
