Each day, a priest exhorts us; today we are with Father Jérôme, chaplain of the French-speaking community in Copenhagen, who helps us meditate on the following Word: Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew At that time, Herod, who was in power in Galilee, heard of the fame of Jesus and said to his servants, "This is John the Baptist, he has risen from the dead, and this is why miracles are being performed through him." For Herod had John arrested, bound, and imprisoned. It was because of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife. For John had said to him, "You have no right to have her as your wife." Herod sought to kill him, but was afraid of the crowd, who held him to be a prophet. When Herod's birthday came, Herodias's daughter danced among the guests, and Herod was pleased. So he swore an oath to give her whatever she asked for. Urged by her mother, she said, "Give me here, on a platter, the head of John the Baptist." The king was displeased; but because of his oath and the guests, he ordered it to be given to her. He sent and beheaded John in the prison. His head was brought on a platter and given to the girl, who took it to her mother. John's disciples came to take his body and bury it. Then they went and told Jesus. Let us acclaim the Word of God. #Wordoftheday #Homily #Gospeloftheday
