This video is comprised of clips taken from a VHS recording of an ABC Monday Night Movie, the premiere showing of the TV movie "My Two Loves," as aired on April 7th, 1986 (taped off flagship station WABC 7 in New York City). There are tracking issues throughout, which I usually try to avoid because it makes me a little nutty. I've discovered, however, that some viewers barely even notice it, so what the hell, there's good stuff in here I wanted to share. It begins with a parental discretion advisory due to the frank subject matter, before the open/intro synopsis of the story, in which Mariette Hartley is married to Barry Newman but is also attracted to Lynn Redgrave. Promos for Tuesday's sitcoms come next, with a baseball-themed Who's the Boss (accounting for Bob Uecker and Billy Martin cameos), and then Cousin Balki says the darnedest things on Perfect Strangers. An extra-bumpy bump follows. A Moonlighting promo has Bruce Willis singing the Love Boat theme (or something similar to it, anyway), then a network/local ID appears. The Tuesday line-up finished with Spenser: For Hire at 10, this week with Linda Thorson guest-starring. A "will continue" bump goes into an ABC News Brief, delivered by Ted Koppel. The brief is interrupted by Ben Davidson hoisting a Lite Beer from Miller (and some nuts) in a 1986 spot, and Ted returns to tell us of the Pentagon's interest in commercial rocket plane travel. After that, a classic New York Lottery commercial featuring a group of co-workers who won the Lotto that previous August. The winners, who worked together at a printing press factory, were largely immigrants, and each man's share amounted to just over $650,000. The group split the grand prize with other winners, from an overall $41M, which at that time was the largest-ever lottery jackpot in the States. The original NY Times story can be found online. The actor playing their boss looks familiar but I can't place him. He looks like David Margulies but isn't. Channel 7's Kaity Tong and Ernie Anastos tease a teacher-injuring-student story, then another VO bump. An All My Children promo features Susan Lucci, Kate Collins and Jean LeClerc. Another bump, then promos for Dynasty and Arthur Hailey's Hotel. Another bump, then a World News Tonight promo with Peter Jennings reporting on the fingerprinting of children. Ernie and Kaity then return for a full local briefing. A thirty-second ad for Summer's Eve Post-Menstrual Douche (with Natrasal©) is next, and there's no other douche like it. ABC honcho Jim Duffy hosts a 1985 "American Television and You" segment about the ubiquity of TV in our lives. A promo for the Colbys is up next, then yet another bump, and then Colonel Potter himself, Harry Morgan, wanders through a real death trap of a house in an ERA Real Estate Company spot. Who's gonna be at the Silver Bullet tonight? Well, I definitely see Christopher McDonald in this Coors Light ad. Ernie Anderson's familiar voice turns up in the promo for next week's movie, A Winner Never Quits. The (slightly abridged) end credits roll, with VO by Ted Koppel, David Hartman, and longtime WABC announcer Wally Parker. The program outro brings this video to a close. No rights held or implied.
