God of War Ragnarok PS5 - Episode 14 - Ironwood, Part Two

God of War Ragnarök PS5 - Episode 14 Ironwood, Part Two Atreus, who is answering to Loki, and Angrboda arrive at the canyon Valley of the Fallen. Here Angrboda retrieves a bag of what appears at first to be large marbles. However they contain the souls of a few of the remaining Giants, which her father helped 'whisper' into them. They found surviving and finding a peace in this form preferable to remaining in Jotenheim and being slaughtered by Odin. Atreus is entrusted with them by her feeling it's his destiny to take care of them. Atreus isn't convinced he is, that they wouldn't be better remaining with Angroboda. Continuing their journey through Ironwood, they arrive at the region known as Idi's Sinkhole, which they together have to clear of wretches inhabiting it. Later they find an animal whose soul has been whispered away, learning that Angrboda's grandmother, a Giant is using her cauldron to do so. She has a wolf captured planning the same fate for it. Atreus is determined they must stop her. Viewing notes: AAA games often feel reminiscent of and inspire other each other in certain ways. I felt that in this section as in earlier parts of the game so far. in a real world sense the accessibility option GoW:R are directly inspired by and expanded upon by the work of Naughty Dog for the recent The Last of Us game version. The traversal using the Blades of Chaos is insprired by Horizon: Forbidden West's use of the Pullcaster, a mechanic that seems to be taking hold in other games too. The change of player character to Atreus can't help but recall the unexpected shift to playing as Ellie in the first TLoU game. In this episode, the sequence riding Jala made me think of the elephant riding sequence in Uncharted: The Lost Legacy amongst other similar scenes. I'm playing 'Give me grace' difficulty, the second from easiest rather than the middle 'Give me balance'. This is to enable to enjoy it including its story and characters without having too many long-winded struggles and repeat attempts. I have limited time available and can't afford ot waste time getting stuck replaying the same scene over and over again. ------------------------ God of War Ragnarök is an action-adventure game developed by Santa Monica Studio and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It was released worldwide on November 9, 2022, for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, marking the first cross-gen release in the God of War series. It is the ninth installment in the series, the ninth chronologically, and the sequel to 2018's God of War. Loosely based on Norse mythology, the game is set in ancient Scandinavia and features series protagonist Kratos and his teenage son Atreus. Concluding the Norse era of the series, the game covers Ragnarök, the eschatological event which is central to Norse mythology and was foretold to happen in the previous game after Kratos killed the Æsir god Baldur. The gameplay is similar to the previous 2018 installment. It features combo-based combat, as well as puzzle and role-playing elements. The gameplay has been revamped from the previous game: in addition to Kratos' main weapons, a magical battle axe and his double-chained blades, he also acquires a magical spear and his shield has become more versatile, with different types of shields that have differing offensive and defensive abilities. His son Atreus, as well as some other characters, provide assistance in combat and can be passively controlled. Additionally, and for the first time in the series, there are some story missions where the player takes full control of Atreus; his gameplay is similar to Kratos, but he uses his magical bow as his weapon. There are also more enemy types and mini-bosses than in the previous game. Originally slated for a 2021 release, the game was delayed in part due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on development, and Kratos actor Christopher Judge's health problems in August 2019. Ragnarök garnered universal acclaim from critics and is a nominee for Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2022, among many other nominations.
