Five people have been killed and dozens more injured after a tour bus returning to New York City from Niagara Falls overturned on the New York State Thruway near Pembroke, about 40 kilometres east of Buffalo. Authorities say the driver became distracted, lost control and overcorrected, sending the bus onto its side and shattering its windows. Several passengers were thrown from the vehicle, while the driver survived. Ambulances and medical helicopters rushed the injured to nearby hospitals, as a lengthy stretch of the highway was shut down for hours.
