A LOVELY WAY TO SPEND AN EVENING, The Masters, Bingo #1008 1960 Flipside: DORE’S BLUES Here’s another great uncharted song from my collection. “A LOVELY WAY TO SPEND AN EVENING” is a great Pop Music Standard published in 1943. It was written by American composer James Francis "Jimmy" McHugh and American lyricist Harold Adamson. Prolific songwriter McHugh is credited with over 500 songs recorded by countless artists. A few of his famous songs were: “I CAN'T GIVE YOU ANYTHING BUT LOVE", "ON THE SUNNY SIDE OF THE STREET" & "I'M IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE." Inducted into the Songwriters Hall Of Fame in 1972, some of Adamson’s credits include: “AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER”, “DAYBREAK” & the theme to The I Love Lucy TV show: “I LOVE LUCY (AND SHE LOVES ME).” “A LOVELY WAY TO SPEND AN EVENING” was sung by Frank Sinatra in the 1944 film “Higher and Higher.” It was his debut acting role. Countless other artists have recorded this great song and among them were: Johnny Mathis, Shirley Bassey, The Ink Spots, Glenn Miller, The Four Graduates, The Four Lads, Engelbert Humperdinck, Jack Jones, Little Anthony & the Imperials, The Caprisians, The Spaniels, The Angels (male group), & The Roomates. Enjoy The Masters’ version of “A LOVELY WAY TO SPEND AN EVENING” with Willie Morris singing lead, a great vocal arrangement and its wonderful strings. Listening to it now is A LOVELY WAY TO SPEND AN EVENING!
