Sony Pictures scrap plans to release N. Korea movie 소니, 김정은 암살영화 개봉취소

Sony Pictures has dropped plans to release its controversial comedy movie "The Interview,"... bending to a threat of potential violence at theaters if the movie is shown. This unprecedented development came as sources told news networks that the U.S. government is preparing to hang the recent Sony hack on North Korea. Shin Se-min reports. There will be one less movie included on the theater lineup on Christmas Day,... as Sony Pictures has decided to shelve "The Interview," its controversial comedy about the fictional assassination of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. Sony said it reached its decison after theater circuits across the U.S. said they wouldn′t be showing the movie because of the recent threat against cinemas. The studio said that,... while it was deeply disappointed and stood by the right to freedom of expression,... it respected and shared the exhibitors′ concerns. Prior to Sony′s decision, Regal, Cinemark and Carmike Cinemas dropped "The Interview" after hackers that identify themselves as "Guardians of Peace" threatened a 9/11 style attack on theaters that screen the film. Regal had said that it pulled the movie,... "due to wavering support of the film by Sony, as well as the ambiguous nature of any real or perceived security threats. And just as Sony canceled the release, U.S. intelligence officials told various news networks that North Korea was "centrally involved" in last month′s hacking attack that paralyzed Sony′s computer systems and leaked sensitive information. The U.S. says there′s hard evidence members of North Korea′s elite cyber-security team, known as "Bureau 121" were behind the attack. U.S. authorities have not completely discounted the possiblity that it could be an insider with a grudge against Sony, but they say the far-reaching nature and threat of violence goes far beyond what a non-North Korean group would do.
