5-15-12 - Candling a fertile lovebird egg with a candling box - this is baby Sweet Pea!

This is an updated video on one method I use when candling lovebird eggs to check if they are fertile. I am using a "candling box" that I made. I took a small box, sealed on top, open on the bottom then punched a small hole on the top in middle. The hole must be slightly smaller than the eggs so they dont fall through, but wide enough so light will shine around and illuminate it. I then hold a flashlight inside the open area of the box, hold the egg over the hole and move the flashlight around until I get a good view of the inside of the egg. This method can be a little tricky and must be done with care especially if doing it by yourself like I did. Of course, easier when you have someone hold the flashlight for you! What I like about using a candling box is you get a sharper all-over glow through the entire egg and you can see more detail, movement etc. I use another simpler method which you just need a small flashlight (Maglite is good) and "cradling" the egg over the light, that video is also posted in this group. I also posted candling videos showing one week prior to this to show the growth progression. This particular egg produced a very sweet normal green lovebird we named "Sweet Pea". This baby was our first "only child" clutch (probably because we had just moved), so he got all the attention. A very very sweet little bird who loves to cuddle and give kisses. We are looking to adopt Sweet Pea a loving home soon :)
