The Karnataka High Court issued notice to the State Government on Monday in response to a petition seeking a direction to send a final report in criminal cases filed for allegedly providing preferential treatment to VK Sasikala, a close aide of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. The PIL relates to her time in the central prison in Bengaluru, where she was incarcerated for violating prison rules. The Chief Secretary, secretaries of the departments of Law and Parliamentary Affairs and Home, Director General and Superintendent of Prisons were all served with a notice by a division bench led by Chief Justice Abhay Shreeniwas Oka and Justice Suraj Govindaraj. The petitioner's attorney argued that no definitive report on the investigation had been submitted. At this point, the court inquired of the petitioner's counsel whether any FIR had been filed under the applicable law for the alleged offences.
