When your cervix takes hours to dilate, your vagina isn’t given the same amount of time to expel the baby. The bearing down reflex pushes the baby out in 2-3 hours or sometimes even lesser. Episiotomy is given to ease the head out and prevent uncontrolled perineal tears . Most women imagine labor lying flat on the bed… but your body was never designed to birth that way (unfortunately)💡 ➡️ In the second stage of labor, if your baby’s heartbeat is reassuring, adopting an upright or squatting position can be a game-changer. It helps descend the baby’s head quickly and reduce your perineal trauma. Once the head is crowning one can go back to lithotomy position cuz it hardly takes a push or two a with good perineal support, we can get away with a small tear. Here’s why ⬇️ 🔹 Gravity works with you, not against you – helping the baby descend smoothly. 🔹 Pelvic outlet widens naturally – giving your baby more space. 🔹 Pushing becomes more effective – less strain, less tearing. 🔹 Episiotomy can often be avoided – reducing stitches, pain, and recovery time. I’m a firm believer of no episiotomy if the patient has the patience to tell me no episiotomy at the time of bearing down and gives a controlled push (needs a bit of effort and lots of preparation) 🔹 Blood circulation improves – better oxygen for you and your baby. This isn’t just about birth—it’s about reclaiming the way women were always meant to birth: empowered, upright, and in control. 🌸 💬 Have you heard about upright birthing positions before?
