My Mckenzie and Holland Model 15-A “Teardrop” bell

New announcement! As of uploading this video, the new Australian Railway Crossings, Signals and Traffic Lights server on Discord is now open! Come join us at   / discord   The Model 15-A mechanical bell is a railway crossing bell was patented by North American company Union Switch and Signal in 1917, but was made much earlier while the patent was pending. It is known to signal fans as the “teardrop” bell because of its teardrop-like shape. British company, McKenzie and Holland which also had an Australian division chose to make this bell (and other equipment) under license from Union Switch and Signal. US&S ceased production of this bell around the 1960s but McK&H made this bell into the 70s until they were absorbed by Westinghouse Brake and Signal’s Australian division, which continued to produce the bell until they came up with a new bell design, known as the “hybrid” bell to signal fans as it was marketed as an electronic bell but still had 1 mechanical moving part. The video of my hybrid bell can be seen at    • My Westinghouse Hybrid Bell   I got my teardrop bell from a friend in an equipment exchange. It is an early cast iron model and as such, it has a detachable base. The more common and newer aluminium model has the base cast to the main structure. 00:00 Bell tour 02:36 Bell ringing without gong 03:00 Bell ringing with gong 03:28 Bell ringing from rear with door open showing the mechanism Thanks for watching!
