Lockdown Stories: My mum has dementia and I have only seen her once this year| 01-Feb-21

Rebecca from Bristol has told Julia Hartley Brewer that her mother who lives in a care home and suffers with dementia, was locked in her room for three weeks during lockdown. “The care home shut its doors, but then they took the decision to lock all the residents in their rooms for a three week period to try and stop the spread," she said. "[Covid] had already got in the care home. People with dementia locked in their rooms, banging on the doors to try and get out, not understanding what was happening to them or why they were there.” Rebecca said she has only seen her mother once in the last year: “It’s very difficult. You can’t sit there. You can’t have a conversation. We’d always take her somewhere.
