We're glad to have you with us as we celebrate the fifth week of Epiphany. We continue our Epiphany worship series - Global Light - as we celebrate Black History month. We will focus on how African Americans have gathered around the Global Light. A musical trio of double bass, percussion and piano will lead us, along with our choir. If you're into Duke Ellington, Oscar Peterson and African American spirituals, then this Sunday is for you! We will also celebrate the Sacrament of Communion. If you are worshipping at home, you may want to have some bread and juice/wine available to share in the sacrament. Order of Service: https://portnelson.ca/wp-content/uplo... Epiphany Worship Series: Global Light United Church minister and scholar Teresa Burnett-Cole writes, “Christianity is and has always been a cultural stew. Since its beginning, Christianity has borrowed and adapted from the cultures in which it has been introduced. Every culture to which the faith was introduced has added something to the Christian mix.” The season of Epiphany is the time when we celebrate Christ, the great light, being revealed and made known. Sometimes we speak of a “light to the nations,” but perhaps more accurately, many nations and cultures have celebrated Christ, the light since the early days of the faith. Let’s explore Global Light. In the biblical texts, the preaching, the praying and the music, let’s explore how God continues to be active in diversity. Let’s celebrate the light that continues to shine!
