Denon HEOS AVR FIRST LOOK, Marantz Reference 10 Series PREVIEW

Denon HEOS AV receiver reimagines home cinema, Marantz demos Reference 10 Series Hi-Fi: In this video, I go to the 2016 Denon and Marantz European Dealer Show, and get an early look at upcoming home cinema and Hi-Fi hardware from the two companies. Highlights of the show include the first HEOS multiroom AV receiver, due 2017, plus new home theatre receivers, including the AVR-X4300H and AVR-X3300W. I also listen to the new Marantz 10 Series Reference high-end audio system, and see some cool new music systems... Denon & Marantz First Look 2016 Slap on the Factor 50. I’m in Malta for sea, sun and sound systems at the annual Denon and Marantz trade preview… 0.22: Every year, these two hi-fi giants preview their latest kit. Like this gorgeous Marantz Music Link CD player. Out September to partner the Music Link amp. 0.35: The Denon Design Series is also getting a new CD player, the DCD100, to go with the 100-series designer network receiver. 0.46: Want something bigger? The Marantz 8005 series is being joined this month by the cheaper 6006, comprising amp and CD player. 0.51: The big audio story at the show though is the Marantz Reference 10 Series, a successor to the brand’s Legendary line. Out January 2017, it comprises a disc player and USB DAC and integrated amplifier. The AVR-X2300 is a seven channel receiver with Dolby Atmos and DTS X, while the lookalike AVR-X3300 ups the power output and improves Audyssey room calibration. The big news though is the integration of HEOS multiroom into AV receivers. 01.53: The first to offer HEOS is the nine channel X4300H. The one to watch though is the X6300. It wasn’t at the show but its an 11 channel monster with HEOS and the kitchen sink built in. If that’s too big for you, Marantz also took the wraps of its latest slimline model, the NR1607, which looks much like NR1606. 02.17: Here’s all the skinny on the new receivers. It’s due early 2017. It’s 5.1 and you can use either wired or wireless HEOS speakers. Note there’s no display. Control is via a simplified remote or app. Kazuma Okada, General Manager of Product Engineering: “This machine has basic 5.1 AV receiver functionality, with network functionality and multiroom.” Denon says HEOS is moving from being a brand name to being an ingredient. Which led to some confusion. Is it a Denon or HEOS or both? Me: “Tell me, what should we call it?” Okada: (Pauses) “Denon HEOS AVR receiver. (Laughs) HEOS AVR. But branded by Denon.” Me: “Not at all confusing!” But what’s in a name? There’s clearly some exciting new home cinema and audio kit coming, from immersive home cinema to high res audio.
