Yellow-billed oxpeckers (Buphagus africanus) are commonly seen on large wild and domesticated mammals. Here, the birds are seen feeding on a Cape buffalo (Syncerus caffer), one of Africa's big five. The birds are eating insects and ticks. They have a preference for blood though and are thus often spotted pecking on wounds. About 30 seconds into the video, the call of the yellow-billed oxpeckers can be heard - sounding like a crackling krisss, krisss. The video is a bit shaky and jerky since it was taken from a small, drifting boat.
