Insane 35kg Max Drag in a 4K Reel? X6X Kratos Max!
X6X Kratos Max 4K by Olympus! Have you ever found yourself in need of a powerful spinning reel but in a small package? Imagine using a 4K or a 6K spinner that had 35kg (+77lbs) of max drag force? Wouldn't that be insane? I own powerful spinning reels from Asia to the USA and not one of them has this type of insane max drag rating! As far as i know nobody has ever reviewed this reel. So for myself it took awhile to gather the information to produce this review. I had to get some of my information translated from Italian to fully appreciate this reel. It comes in 4K & 6K sizes. What grabbed me was the max drag rating?! 35kg in any reel is unheard of. So i contacted one of my friends who works in a US owned factory that produces fishing reels & he remembered this model as they tested one a few years back. He said it was everything that was advertised. Before i released this video i learned that the spools of the 4K & 6K models were interchangeable as well! Ok, now i was hooked. I had to bring in one just to check it out myself. Again not much information is out there on these 2 spinning reels so this is what i have. There was a time when everyone wanted a Stella because of the Max Drag rating. That greatly influenced the reviews at that time. Since then anglers got over that & refocused on other attributes. Olympus never focused on the Max Drag rating to sell these reels. It was a selling feature but other factors like the smooth retrievals to interchangeable spools so one can use a 4K or a 6K when needed gave rise to this reel. And the extremely fair MSRP of this reel represented a huge portion of my decision to try it when closely reviewed to other related Asian models. So what do i see in the 4K & 6K models that attracted me to contact Olympus? First it was the price. I could purchase 4 Kratos units & that would roughly equal the price of just 1 asian counterpart. But is it worth it? The company is sending me several more units to field test so i can make a comparison regarding features. So i will add to this review along the way throughout the year. My main reason for getting a Kratos? I'm heavily into jigging from shore. But there's days when there's no fish & my arms about to fall off. If i could use my shore jigging rig to also surf cast baits then i could relax a bit. Kill 2 birds with 1 reel so to speak. Also to help me in this Fishbites in Florida kindly has sent me a box of processed proven prepared baits to use so i won't need to lug a cooler w/ice around or to chase crabs along the shoreline.
