News 8 Anchor Steve Price provides voice track from original scripts. August 21 State officials this morning opened a new beach camping facility south of Carlsbad, and it was an immediate success. The first campers were let through the gate at 8 o’clock, and by 9:30 the facility was crowded to capacity, with some 12-hundred people occupying the 226 camp sites. Normally the park would employ 5 rangers to handle the crowds and maintain order, but today 12 rangers were on duty to cope with the influx of campers. The South Carlsbad State Beach was formerly known as La Costa beach which was closed down 8 months ago for the million-dollar remodeling project. The location has always been popular with campers, and it looks like as in past summers, there will be a waiting list again this year. September 3 With a three-day Labor Day weekend ahead, thousands of San Diegans have decided to “head for the hills” with camping trailers and tents, many families have moved into county camps for the holidays. As a matter of fact, the campers are so plentiful this year that state and federal park rangers say that most of the campgrounds in the mountains are filled. This is the way it looked today at South Carlsbad State Beach, south of Oceanside. This park opened just two weeks ago after a million-dollar face-lifting, and today all 260 spaces were filled with tents, campers and trailers. It’s a sensible way to spend a holiday, rather than driving on crowded highways. https://www.cbs8.com/article/news/loc...
