In this video, I want to give beginners a compass to help them plan their next steps. In a campaign, you usually start with an enemy faction, and your commander begins near one of their armies. So, we'll bring our hero into the army and attack right away. After a few turns, you should have crushed the enemy and secured your first province. Some people are now having the problem of not knowing what to do in this vast sandbox world. A good indicator here can be the objectives for a short or long campaign victory. However, if it basically just says that you should occupy 30 settlements, then you're on your own again. In this case, I recommend getting an overview. On the map, you can easily use the filter function to find out which regions have the best climate for your people, so you don't have to suffer any penalties. These are the potential locations where you should expand. A look at the alignment shows which factions have a positive or negative attitude towards you. Ideally, you'll acquire a belt of friends along your borders, following Bismarck's alliance policy, so you don't have to wage war on multiple fronts and can concentrate your military strength as much as possible. Using the Quick Trade button, you can directly see which offers from other factions could be accepted. If the negative number is very low, we can usually provide the necessary argument with a small payment. If the number is positive, we can even demand a compensation payment using the scales symbol. But sometimes the factions simply don't want what we want. This makes it all the more important that we have a high reliability rating and keep our word. It could also simply be that the personality of our counterpart is a bit more hostile. Generally speaking, sympathy is one of the most powerful levers. We can influence this, for example, by having the same allies and enemies as the faction we want to woo. However, if we trade with their enemies or even take military action against them, this could have serious consequences. So we should always keep an eye on the diplomacy in our area. Existing agreements also help increase sympathy. Sometimes it's even enough to simply offer to join the war. Over time, you'll rise in favor and can form ever more close ties with the faction—perhaps even a military alliance. And so, with clever alliance politics, you can largely secure your borders and expand in one direction. Confederations with factions of your own race can also expand your territory and even let you take over legendary lords. Once you've mastered an easy campaign this way, the world is your oyster: You can set your own little challenges and forge your own sandbox experiences. Most veterans simply enjoy being a part of this unforgiving world, or they plan to conquer absolutely everything. The path should always be the destination.
