Super Smash Bros. Ultimate - Stars of the Show 2

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate - Stars of the Show 2

The theme of this Event Tourney is...stars! But only in the items, though it would've been pretty neat for them to go through all of the stages with a starry sky and stars involved in some other way. But if you ask me, this will do fine. Even with this relatively minor, straightforward change, the battles wound up having a significantly different feel. Or maybe it's because I know how to use one particular item that the people playing at the same time as me didn't quite know. Debuting on the weekend of January 1st, 2021, this repeat is the second one of an Event Tourney originally held in 2021, the other one being "Dream Land Hustle." Besides the Smash Ball, all of the items are not only star-shaped, but have "star" in their name somewhere: Super Star (AKA Starman, not to be confused with EarthBound's Starman), Warp Star, Super Launch Star, and Star Rod. All characters and non-DLC stages are allowed, FS Meter is on, up to 4 players per match, and matches are set to Time with 2:30 on the timer. The original Japanese name for this Event Tourney is a reference to Milky Way Wishes, one of the sub-games of Kirby Super Star. Match #1 Mute City (SNES) Time (2 Minutes 30 Seconds) I AM PLAYER 1 (Terry) Opponents: Player 2: Smashmay95 (King Dedede) Player 3: wing of tj (Toon Link) Player 4: Jimmy (Sephiroth) Music: "Mute City" Right from the get-go, that Sephiroth looked like trouble. I don't think Sephiroth's win rate are much different than most of the rest of the roster, but he definitely comes across to me as more difficult to deal with. Then again, Terry isn't one of my better characters, as I struggle to understand his mechanics borrowed from King of Fighters. (I didn't mean to give Toon Link so many KOs! He just happened to be in the line of fire a lot.) Match #2 Dracula's Castle Time (2 Minutes 30 Seconds) I AM PLAYER 1 (Terry) Opponents: Player 2: FemboyDude (Toon Link) Music: "Dance of Illusions" There is only one thing that allowed me to keep up with my opponent, who would have otherwise had quite the edge: the Super Launch Star. You see, when you throw a Super Launch Star, it will establish itself in midair, except it points the opposite direction of your throw. Thsi means optimally, you want to throw it downwards so it points up because it can KO somebody with pretty low damage percentages. I think my opponent will be more wary of Super Launch Stars from here on out... Match #3 Mute City (SNES) Time (2 Minutes 30 Seconds) I AM PLAYER 1 (Villager) Opponents: Player 2: Muyu (Isabelle) Player 3: Naturboy95 (Sonic) Player 4: john :/ (Richter) Music: "Mute City (Melee)" This was a very rough match. Villager is a character who, despite having been attempting for far longer than Terry, is someone I never got the hang of due to his obtuse fighting style. Combine that with at least two opponents who will pursue fighters offstage, and this is a lot of trouble. It was nothing like the first match of this video. I've attempted to do that sort of offstage pursuit before. I wind up being the one falling off while they always recover. Match #4 Mario Galaxy Time (2 Minutes 30 Seconds) I AM PLAYER 1 (Kirby) Opponents: Player 2: gelo (Kirby) Player 3: Trent (Bayonetta) Player 4: Smashmay95 (King Dedede) Music: "Egg Planet" It is so rare to see Bayonetta's Infernal Climax actually succeeding, not only in getting that meter filled so she can actually use her attack, but to KO someone with it. Besides that though, we got Smashmay95 back and still using King Dedede. Sometimes, I'm astonished how the years fly by. Someone born in 1995 is either 26 or 27 years old now. Super Mario 64 came out in 1995. Someone may have gotten their bachelor's degree for a few years now and has never lived in the days before Mario went 3D. As someone who was born a decade prior, it feels wild to me. Match #5 Port Town Aero Dive Time (2 Minutes 30 Seconds) I AM PLAYER 1 (Kirby) Opponents: Player 2: Connor (Wario) Music: "White Land II" This is another 1-on-1 match, so something you won't find in this match is the fact that the one who deployed the Super Launch Star gets the KO credit, no matter who sends the character flying into it. I wanted to get one more Super Launch Star KO in this battle though, and I got one right near the end (as well as earlier, an incorrect use of a Super Launch Star).
