Welcome to your 24 weeks pregnant update! Being 24 weeks pregnant means you’re now 6 months along, well into your second trimester, and moving closer to the exciting third trimester. At this point, your baby is growing quickly, your body is changing in new ways, and you may be feeling both excited and overwhelmed. In this video, we’ll go step by step through baby development at 24 weeks, common pregnancy symptoms, your changing body, and what you can expect in the weeks ahead. At 24 weeks of pregnancy, your baby is about the size of an ear of corn or a cantaloupe melon — around 30 cm (12 inches) long and weighing about 1 to 1.3 pounds (600–650 g). The brain is growing rapidly, developing areas that control thought, memory, and sensory experiences. The lungs are forming tiny air sacs and producing surfactant, preparing for breathing outside the womb. The skin is still thin but becoming less translucent as fat layers develop. Your baby’s ears are more developed, and they can now hear your voice, heartbeat, and even external sounds. Taste buds are active, and your baby may respond to sweet or bitter flavors in the amniotic fluid. Movements are stronger — you may feel kicks, rolls, and stretches throughout the day. Symptoms at 24 Weeks Pregnant Back pain and pelvic discomfort due to your expanding belly and shifting center of gravity. Round ligament pain as your uterus continues to stretch. Heartburn, indigestion, and constipation caused by hormonal changes and pressure on your digestive system. Swelling (edema) in the ankles, feet, and sometimes hands, especially at the end of the day. Leg cramps and restless legs at night. Braxton Hicks contractions, or practice contractions, may start around this time — usually irregular and mild. Increased appetite, as your baby needs more nutrients. Sleep challenges, vivid dreams, and frequent bathroom trips. What to Expect at 24 Weeks Pregnant: Your doctor or midwife may schedule a glucose screening test soon to check for gestational diabetes. Kick counts will become an important way to track your baby’s health as movements increase. You might notice linea negra, a dark line forming down your belly, and other skin changes like stretch marks. Breasts may start leaking colostrum, the nutrient-rich first milk. Emotionally, you may feel a mix of excitement, anxiety, and nesting instincts as the due date gets closer. Staying active with safe prenatal exercises (like the ones in my videos) helps improve circulation, reduce swelling, and ease back pain. Nutrition is crucial: focus on iron, calcium, protein, and omega-3s to support your baby’s rapid growth. Begin discussing birth plans, pain relief options, and maternity leave preparations. Tips for Moms-to-Be at 24 Weeks Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated and reduce swelling. Rest with your feet elevated to help circulation. Sleep on your side (especially the left side) to improve blood flow to your baby. Wear comfortable shoes and consider maternity support belts for back relief. Practice relaxation techniques, deep breathing, or prenatal meditation to reduce stress. Whether this is your first pregnancy or you’re adding to your family, this guide will help you feel informed, reassured, and prepared for what’s coming next.
