Sounds OF Isha - Shiva Panchakshara Stotram | Nagendra haraya | Trigun | Shiva | Mantra 🐂 The Story of Panch Kedar The Panch Kedar (Five Kedars) is a revered pilgrimage circuit dedicated to Lord Shiva, rooted in the epic Mahabharata. The Legend After the great Kurukshetra War, the Pandava brothers felt remorse for the sin of killing their own kin and sought the blessings of Lord Shiva for absolution. However, Lord Shiva, who was displeased with the slaughter, wanted to avoid them. He disguised himself as a bull (Nandi) and hid in the Garhwal Himalayas. The determined Pandavas, led by Bhima, eventually spotted him. As Bhima tried to grab the bull, it vanished into the ground. The bull's body reappeared in five different parts at five separate locations, which the Pandavas then consecrated as the Panch Kedar temples to worship Lord Shiva: Kedarnath: Where the hump (hunch) appeared. Tungnath: Where the arms (bahu) appeared. Rudranath: Where the face (mukh) appeared. Madhyamaheshwar: Where the navel (nabhi) and mid-portion appeared. Kalpeshwar: Where the hair/locks (jata) appeared. 🕉️ Tungnath's Historical Connection to Shri Ram and Chandra Dev. Tungnath, the highest Shiva temple in the world (the second temple in the Panch Kedar circuit), has mythological links extending beyond the Pandavas to Shri Ram and the Moon God (Chandra Dev). Shri Ram and Tungnath The peak above Tungnath is known as Chandrashila. According to legend, after Lord Ram defeated the demon king Ravana, he performed penance and meditated at Chandrashila to worship Lord Shiva and cleanse himself of the sin of Brahmahatya (killing a Brahmin, as Ravana was considered one). This act of devotion links the site directly to the events of the Ramayana. Chandra Dev and Tungnath The summit of Chandrashila literally means "Moon Rock." It is widely believed that Chandra Dev (the Moon God) also performed penance (tapasya) at this very spot for a significant period. Devotion to the Moon God is a strong part of the local tradition, and the scenic view from the summit, especially at sunrise, is considered celestial and sacred due to this history.
