Watch my interview with Scotland-based contemporary art music composer Clare Johnston on her work "Contemplation and Review." This piece is composed for a distant MIDI ensemble featuring an iPad, Akai EWI, MIDI violin, synthesizer, and MiMu musical gloves. Clare Johnston, a composer and music technologist, specializes in music for iPads. She also delivers the Trinity Arts Awards at all levels and is passionate about access issues in the arts. Johnston has performed at Celtic Connections, the Just Festival, DadaFest, and Kryptic Nights. She is an Associate Musician with Drake Music Scotland, where she delivers music education in special schools and supports disabled musicians in various musical projects. Additionally, she speaks about music accessibility to organizations and educational institutions, including CoMA - Contemporary Music for All, the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, and the Scottish Instrumental Music Teachers' Network. She has also collaborated with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra on community music projects. Johnston has been involved in access campaigns such as #letmeonstage, advocating for better access to stage areas in music venues, and Stay Up Late, promoting the right for people who access social care to attend late-night events.
