Solving One-Step Equations (Square Root) | Introduction to Algebra In this lesson, we learn how to solve one-step equations involving square roots by using inverse operations. The inverse of taking a square root is squaring. When a variable is inside a square root, we remove the square root by squaring both sides of the equation. This keeps the equation balanced and allows us to isolate the variable. For example, in the equation √x = 6, we square both sides to get x = 36. By undoing the square root, we find the value of the variable. This lesson builds confidence in solving equations involving powers and roots and completes the set of one-step equation methods before moving on to two-step equations.
