They added that more than 20 people may still be trapped in the rubble. The Ukrainian emergency services said rescuers made voice contact with at least three people trapped in the rubble. Local residents looked on in disbelief and shock as the rescue operation continued. One local resident said she had heard reports that a child was among the dead, and feared for the wellbeing of a nine-year-old girl she knew, who lived in the building. Iryna Shulimova said locals were scared of what may happen next. "Now we are afraid of everything. We are afraid of night, we are afraid of this day, because we don't know what it brings us," she explained. Chasiv Yar lies about 20 kilometres (12 miles) southeast of Kramatorsk, a city that is expected to be a major target of Russian forces as they grind westward. The Saturday night rocket strike was the latest in a recent burst of high-casualty attacks on civilian structures. At least 19 people died when a Russian missile hit a shopping mall in the city of Kremenchuk in late June. Twenty-one people were killed when an apartment building and recreation area came under rocket fire in the southern Odesa region this month. Russia has repeatedly claimed that it is hitting only targets of military value in the war. The governor of the Donetsk region that includes Chasiv Yar said the town of about 12,000 was hit by Uragan rockets, which are fired from truck-borne systems. There was no comment on Chasiv Yar at a Russian Defence Ministry briefing on Sunday. === AP video shot by Inna Varenytsia =========================================================== Clients are reminded: (i) to check the terms of their licence agreements for use of content outside news programming and that further advice and assistance can be obtained from the AP Archive on: Tel +44 (0) 20 7482 7482 Email: [email protected] (ii) they should check with the applicable collecting society in their Territory regarding the clearance of any sound recording or performance included within the AP Television News service (iii) they have editorial responsibility for the use of all and any content included within the AP Television News service and for libel, privacy, compliance and third party rights applicable to their Territory.
