The real trick for adding new directions to your playing style lies within a study of what I like to simply call, “Scales of the World.” In this lesson, I’m going to show you how to start using a scale called, “Arabian Pentatonic Minor.” This scale is similar to the “Minor Pentatonic.” However, Arabian Pentatonic Minor adds a 2nd degree while also omitting the minor 7 degree. The difference in note combination may seem slight, but this new group of tones works in a way that offers more space. The end result is a scale that generates a new sound with new note combinations that are differently grouped compared to the classic Minor Pentatonic. This new note combination is one that can be addressed in your own playing with something as simple as learning one new chord that you can practice the scale over first thing in the morning for only a few minutes.
