This gentle technique is highly effective. Make sure the scar is well healed before doing direct techniques. Once you decide to treat you scar I think it's helpful to commit to treating it twice a week for a couple of weeks. If you just do it once, it's better that none! Doing it regular may prove to be more beneficial. Typically, a cesarean birth scar can be massaged around 8 to 12 weeks. If the scar still looks fresh, give it more time. Massage should not open the incision nor cause pain. I learned this technique from a friend who is a manual osteopath. I like teaching this to people because it is so easy and effective. I like to release scars at the beginning of my sessions with new clients. Rough tugging and pulling at a scar can rip scar tissue causing more wounding and possibly more scar tissue to form. The technique: Lie down with knees bent Place finger tips along the scar and thank the tissues. Lightly move the scar left, center, then right. Which direction did it move the easiest? Return there and stay for 3 breaths. Then release Do this again going up and down. You can also do this on the diagonal. You can vary the depth of the technique by increasing or decreasing the pressure of your fingertips on the scar. You can also do this along side of the scar.
