A wall of water rushed down Trace Creek causing catastrophic damage. One teenage girl who knows some who are missing says she is struggling with the fact how close it was for her to be killed as she struggled with her parents to keep her head above the water. Supers Anthony Shows / Hopeforce International Volunteer :15-21 Jonathan Petramala/Reporting :41-47 Sadie Vaughan/survivor 1:01-05 TRT: 1:40 Along Trace Creek, searchers are hunting for missing neighbors, family and friends. Walking the bank, poking through hills of debris, stacked up by a mountain of water that tore through the town of Waverly. Anthony Shows / Hopeforce international It almost feels like a hurricane tornado response with the way things are thrown around and you can see that the water came through here and everything is clinging to the trees and everything is going that direction From the air just east of town you can see the start of the trail of destruction. 17 inches of rain rushing down Trace Creek caused a collapse of a railroad embankment, unleashing a tidal wave that turned flash flooding into a torrent of tragedy. Grey Collier/Humphrey County There was no warning... Trace creek is a few dozen yards off to my side, the force that this water was moving in here, no better way to show how strong it was then walking up the front steps, looking at an empty foundation and where the house that was moved at least 20 yards away Sadie Vaughn/survivor The scariest thing was calling 9-1-1 and being put on hold or getting hung up on bc i don't know how many times we called... We're in the water We're floating and we need somebody here and they're like we'll put you on the list 17 year old Sadie Vaughn watched as one home floated and smashed into her front door...she took videos to show her friends she was alive...but barely. We went out this way in the middle of the yard where all that trash is, we were floating On her back door, a psalm reads "I shall not be shaken." This flood has tested that. 16 family friends that are missing, they've been missing since the flood and it's like that could have been me, I could be the one that Noone could find at the moment, I could have been the one swept under the water A family that feels lucky to have just lost everything...but still have each other.
