The music video shows the band on a trip to Mumbai, India where the members roam the streets seeing spiritual shamans, dancing street kids and a Hindu festival of colors. It features Beyonce playing an Indian film star with the poster of her latest film on the billboards. Beyonce has henna on her hands and wearing a bewjewled sari.. As soon as it was released on Friday, January 29th, it sparked a debate with some calling it a "stereotypical" portrayal of Indian culture. One of the many unsatisfied with the video was Buzzfeed writer Ahmed Ali Akbar who wrote on Twitter it's crazy how literally all the india music videos hit all the same beats. holi paint, bollywood, poverty, spirituality. come onnnnnnnnn Byeonce’s loyal bey hive rushed to defend her, many arguing that as a black woman she can't actually appropriate and profit from another culture.
