The youngest of nine children of blues legend Luther Allison, Bernard first played on his father's live recording at the age of 13. After graduating from high school, he played in Koko Taylor's band, "Blues Machine," and Willie Dixon's "Blues All-Stars." He performed with his father at blues festivals. His teachers also included Johnny Winter and Stevie Ray Vaughan. In 1989, Allison moved to Paris to live and perform with his father. Bernard Allison's first solo album was released in 1990. In 1999, two years after his father's death, Allison returned to the United States.
